As the name suggests paper dyes are used for colouring paper. There are different types of dyes used for colouring paper, like Acid Dyes, Basic Dyes and Direct Dyes. Different dyes have different properties and are used in different kind of paper.
Basic Dyes
have high affinity to wood from which paper is made and hence they are widely used. Basic dyes are used for internal colouring of one-time use paper like box boards, wrappings, notion bag papers newsprint etc. They are generally available in Liquid and Powder form.
Direct Dyes
have high affinity short cellulosic fibre and paper is made from them and hence direct dyes also are used in colouring of paper. Direct dyes are used for colouring for all type of fine and coarse papers from thinnest facial tissues to the heaviest paper and boards. Direct Dyes are rarely used for surface colouring because they exhaust rapidly onto the cellulose. They are mainly available in Liquid Form.
are used for internal colouring or surface colouring of paper. All paper coloured with Acid dyes will bleed in Water. They are only available in Powder form.
