D&C Red 27 Al. Lake is the aluminum laked pigment of D&C Red 28. It is famous for its ability to produce a bright, intense bluish-pink or red color that “develops” or stains the skin upon application, a property utilized in long-lasting lipsticks. As an insoluble lake, it is perfect for anhydrous formulations. In its dry form, it is nearly colorless, but it blooms into a vibrant red in the presence of moisture and skin oils.
